The Los Angeles Clippers took a significant step backward this offseason, at least on paper.

They were very active in the early hours of free agency, bringing in several role players to try and make up for the loss of Paul George.

Perhaps, from a team and a basketball perspective, those moves could end up being positive for them.

However, when it comes to selling a product or trying to get fans to come to the arena, letting George walk away was just bad business.

That’s why NBA analyst Mike Golic Jr believes Steve Ballmer is waiving the white flag before the season even starts.

Talking on his GoJo and Golic show, he stated that Ballmer should’ve kept George even if he didn’t value him as much as Kawhi Leonard just for the sake of getting butts in the seats.

The Clippers have just built a state-of-the-art new arena in Inglewood, but Los Angeles has always been — and will always be — a Los Angeles Lakers town, so that won’t be enough to get people there.

Also, the team was one of the best in the Western Conference when they were healthy last season, so it’s not like they couldn’t compete or at least make people believe.

The Clippers also could’ve reportedly landed a first-round pick and Jonathan Kuminga if they had just decided to move George to the Golden State Warriors, and the decision not to do so is questionable.
