After an epic flameout in the first round of the NFL playoffs last season, with the Dallas Cowboys falling to the upstart Green Bay Packers in convincing fashion, many believed that would mark the end Mike McCarthy’s time as head coach of the storied Dallas franchise.

Heading into the offseason much earlier than anticipated, some Cowboys fans were calling for McCarthy’s head and potentially a change at quarterback as Dak Prescott once again was unable to deliver in the playoffs despite an MVP-caliber regular-season performance.

Surprisingly enough, the Cowboys’ brass decided it wasn’t time to make a move when it came to McCarthy’s job status, and he will get at least one more season to prove that he’s the right guy to lead the team to the Super Bowl.

But Chris Broussard of FOX Sports said he believes McCarthy might not even need to coach the Cowboys to multiple playoff wins to hang on to his job, via “First Things First.”

“Part of me wants to say that they have to get to the NFC Championship Game to save his job, but maybe one playoff win might do it,” Broussard said.

Is McCarthy on the hot seat?

Broussard may be underselling it with that prediction, as there’s no way to justify flaming out again early in the playoffs this season, especially with the roster as talented as it is on both sides of the ball.

That said, McCarthy will be on the hot seat once the 2024 campaign gets underway for Dallas, as the pressure will be on immediately to produce results.
