If we abide by the simple logic of ‘the best player in the NFL should make the most money,’ then we could argue that Patrick Mahomes is currently underpaid.
He’s the undisputed No. 1 right now, and — with all due respect to other players — some lesser quarterbacks are getting more money per year than him.
Nonetheless, even though that’s clearly the case, NFL analyst Craig Carton still doesn’t think he’s underpaid.
Talking on The Carton Show, he argued that someone with $220 million guaranteed who’s still going to make at least $450 million is by no means underpaid, especially if you consider the fact that he’s also making around $25 million a year in endorsement deals alone.

Carton praised Mahomes for taking a page from Tom Brady’s book and restructuring his contract multiple times to clear some cap space and allow the team to agree to deals with stars like Travis Kelce and Chris Jones Jr.
Truth be told, if anything, other players — even some great ones — might be overpaid.
There’s a trend going on in the league in which it’s not about getting financial security for yourself and your family anymore; it’s all about being the highest-paid player.
Players are literally holding out and not showing up to work to put pressure on their teams to improve their already astronomically high salaries just because another player has one-upped them.
The Chiefs better hope that Mahomes doesn’t join that new trend.
