The Dallas Cowboys suffered a familiar playoff collapse in January, and the clock is ticking for their talented cast to win a Super Bowl championship.

While they have a star quarterback in Dak Prescott and stars elsewhere on their roster, one weakness is the running back spot, where Tony Pollard couldn’t quite duplicate his success from 2022 when he made the Pro Bowl.

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley is about to become a free agent, and Bucky Brooks said on “NFL Total Access” that Barkley would be “perfect” for the Cowboys because of his big-play ability, as well as his dual-threat ability.

Barkley is the only true threat the Giants have offensively, but it is far from a foregone conclusion they will come up with the money to keep him.

Dallas, on the other hand, has owner Jerry Jones, who loves to make sure the spotlight of the football world is positioned directly on his team.

Pollard ran for 1,005 yards and six touchdowns in 2023, but he averaged a modest 4.0 yards per rush attempt, and he simply isn’t the type of tailback who is a game-breaker.

Barkley wasn’t more efficient than Pollard in 2023, but his athleticism and physicality make him a constant threat to break free and put up a big run that will change the complexion of a game.

At age 27, he is young enough to be a part of the Cowboys for the next several years while giving them the boost they need to win their first Super Bowl since the 1995 campaign.
