Brandon Aiyuk has made this a very uncomfortable offseason for the San Francisco 49ers.
It’s reached a point in which it seems more like a matter of pride, as he may not have had the best of intentions or faith when he started trying to push the team into getting him a new contract.
Caving into that kind of behavior could set a dangerous precedent for GM John Lynch, and he might have to draw a line in the sand now.
Aiyuk is clearly a very good wide receiver who deserves to get paid, but the way he’s handled his situation may not be the best.
With that in mind, NFL analyst Craig Carton believes that the Niners could be just fine without him.
In the latest edition of The Carton Show, Carton argued that he thought Aiyuk was going to hold out and wouldn’t show up to training camp, even though that might not be the smartest decision.
He believes that the Niners have more than enough talent to get by with him, as they even drafted a wide receiver early.

While Aiyuk is clearly deserving of a raise, Carton thinks the Niners won’t be as hard-pressed to give him a contract as he thinks, so he should just show up and play.
Aiyuk seems willing to make things even more uncomfortable if that’s what it takes to leave San Francisco.
But, with all due respect, as great a player as he is, he’s not a box-office player who will steal all the headlines if he’s not out there.
