Thursday night marked the start of a new chapter for the Minnesota Timberwolves, as they are now without Karl-Anthony Towns for the foreseeable future because of knee surgery.
The loss of Towns could be devastating for the team, who are currently the top seed in the Western Conference.
But even without Towns, the Timberwolves were able to score a 113-111 win over the Indiana Pacers.
On Friday’s “First Take,” Chiney Ogwumike spoke about the power of Anthony Edwards, who left his mark all over the game.
“We are witnessing the birth of an NBA superstar,” Ogwumike said.

Edwards was dynamic throughout the the game, scoring 44 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.
He also wowed the crowd and the rest of the NBA with an amazing block as the game came to a close.
But Ogwumike said that Edwards’ impact goes beyond just the numbers that he scores.
She said that he has a certain type of fight and fire in him that allows him to rise up and lead the Timberwolves.
In fact, she noted that Edwards actually plays better without Towns on the court.
Does this mean that the team might still be able to remain the top seed in the West even without their major star?
That’ll be a tough task because the competition in the West is incredibly intense.
The Denver Nuggets are surging, the Oklahoma City Thunder are still doing really well, and other teams like the Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans Pelicans aren’t far behind.
If the Timberwolves are going to stay in the top spot, they will need Edwards to release that fight and fire inside of him every single night.
If Edwards really is able to carry his team into the playoffs without Towns, he really will be considered a legitimate NBA superstar.
