Without Aaron Rodgers under center for the rest of the 2023 NFL season, the New York Jets are hoping that Zach Wilson can lead the team.

Wilson was able to step in for Rodgers after he ruptured his Achilles in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills and guide the Jets to an improbably overtime victory.

Although Wilson didn’t have the most eye-popping game, he managed to do just enough offensively to put New York in a position to win.

The former number two overall pick has been largely disappointing during his short NFL career, but now gets an opportunity to prove that he belongs in the league.

His first start of the year will come in Week 2 when the Jets play the Dallas Cowboys on the road.

The Cowboys boast one of the NFL’s best defensive units, so James Jones made the goal simple for Wilson this week via Speak.

“Zach, don’t turn the ball over,” Jones said.

Every NFL team wants to take care of the football and in New York’s case it might serve them well to lean on their running back duo of Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook to handle the offensive load in order to protect Wilson.

Both Hall and Cook looked good running the football, but Dallas’ defensive line will surely put the Jets in a position where they’ll need to throw the football in order to stay ahead of the chains.

Wilson has shown some promise throwing out of structure, though that could be New York’s downfall this Sunday if he’s on the move the entire game.
