The Kansas City Chiefs need to do whatever they can to get Chris Jones back on the field.

Jones has skipped the entire training camp and the preseason, sharing cryptic tweets, and making it loud and clear that he doesn’t intend to play unless he gets a better contract.

Recently, NFL insider Mike Florio reported that the Chiefs offered to replace Jones’ $19.5 million he’s due to earn this campaign with 74 million over the next three seasons (via Dov Kleiman).

Mike Florio’s report also states that of that amount, $70 million would be guaranteed for injury, and it would also include full guarantees for a lower amount.

Jones would then make $84.5 million over the next three years with that reported offer.

Notably, Jones is reportedly seeking a deal close to what Aaron Donald is getting from the Los Angeles Rams.

Donald is getting $95 million over three years, so that $74 million offer may not be enough to appease their star defensive tackle.

The Chiefs desperately need Jones back on the field, granted that they’ve been one of the worst teams in the league when rushing the opposing quarterback when he’s not out there.

Their offense has been their calling card throughout the course of the Patrick Mahomes era, but no team can thrive without a solid defensive unit.

Jones was a Defensive Player of the Year candidate last season, and now that he’s entering the final year of his current contract, he seems to have all the leverage in this situation.
