It’s been quite a while since the Indianapolis Colts last made it to the big game.
They’ve had a bit of a curse since Andrew Luck retired shortly before the start of the season.
They’ve been able to put together some competitive teams, but they’ve struggled at the quarterback position, and Frank Reich also left a lot to be desired as a head coach during his tenure there.
Last year, Shane Steichen had a solid first campaign in charge of the team, and they looked like a team that could compete at a high level soon.
That’s definitely what GM Chris Ballard hopes, at least according to The Athletic.
Chris Ballard doesn’t have much to show for seven years at the helm of the Colts, write @RomeoVilleKid and @RandyMueller.
Could the pressure be ratcheted up in Year 8? and will it affect Indy’s free agency approach?https://t.co/NCzUsZ2R7J pic.twitter.com/x64AmeeC30

Per a report, he could be on the hot seat if the team fails to take a leap forward in 2024 when he enters his eighth season with the organization.
That’s not much of a surprise, as NFL teams — or sports teams, for what it’s worth — are rarely patient with their top-notch executives, and the Colts have tried to be competitive for a while.
Ballard has had some good moments, though.
The team managed to keep Jonathan Taylor in town despite his alleged desire to leave, and finding Anthony Richardson was a big step in the right direction for them, not to mention the fact that hiring Steichen seemed like a good decision.
Of course, some fans will continue to hold Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, and Philip Rivers against him, but all of those moves seemed logical at the time.
