The Kansas City Chiefs have released their plan for their starters in their second preseason game this weekend against the Detroit Lions.

According to head coach Andy Reid (via insider Ari Meirov), the Chiefs will play their starters for the entire first half against Detroit.

Instead of playing the starters in just the first quarter like last week, Reid wants to see his starters play in multiple quarters.

This could be seen as a smart idea from the future Hall of Fame head coach.

He is steadily increasing the play of his starters as the preseason moves along to prepare them for the regular season.

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who went 3/4 for 27 yards in Kansas City’s preseason loss to Jacksonville last week, will now have a larger sample size this time around.

All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce, who will turn 35 years of age in October, caught one pass for seven yards last week in limited action.

Look for that duo to link up at least a couple of times against Detroit.

This extended game action will also give Mahomes time to grow his connection with new players such as rookie speedster Xavier Worthy.

Given what this team has accomplished in the last half-decade, this is their tune-up time before they go out and defend their title.

No team has ever won three consecutive Super Bowls in the history of the league.

If they can accomplish that feat this year, they will be remembered forever as one of the league’s best dynasties.
