There is an interesting development taking place at training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs.
While the back-to-back Super Bowl champions are preparing to try and win their third in a row this year, head coach Andy Reid has had a surprise guest at practice each of the last few days.
That surprise guest was none other than former Super Bowl-winning head coach Jon Gruden.
Reid and Gruden’s relationship goes all the way back to 1992 when they were both offensive assistants in Green Bay.
In a recent press conference, Reid chatted about his relationship with Gruden and why he has been hanging around practice.
“He loves football and he and I go way back – 30 years so we’ve known each other a long time,” Reid said. “So, it’s good to get him up here.”

The reason this news is so significant is because Gruden has essentially been out of the league for the last three years after resigning from his head-coaching role with the Raiders due to insensitive emails that he sent out in between 2011 and 2018.
He has quietly been taking on smaller roles here or there over the last few seasons, including consulting with the New Orleans Saints in the offseason of 2023, as well as helping to train former Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Wentz, who is now on the Chiefs, for an NFL comeback.
Gruden also has taken on an advisor role with the Milano Seamen of the European League of Football.
Time will tell to see if he gets another real coaching opportunity in the NFL anytime soon, but he might be getting one right now thanks to his relationship with Reid.
