The Los Angeles Angels and their fans are holding their breath as they look for updates on Shohei Ohtani.

The 2021 AL MVP hurt his oblique during batting practice on Monday.

He took an awkward swing and had to interrupt the session in order to avoid aggravating a potential issue.

He didn’t look like he was in excruciating pain, but oblique injuries are definitely not to be trusted.

The Angels, through insider Sam Blum, offered a brief update on Ohtani’s status, but there is very limited information at this time.

“There will be more info on Shohei Ohtani tomorrow, Phil Nevin said. They did some preliminary testing on his oblique, but didn’t have any concrete info to share yet,” Blum tweeted.

If the preliminary testing shows something to be concerned about, the Angels will perform more tests to make sure to have the exact diagnosis.

Right now, nobody knows if he will be back in the lineup soon or if he will miss the remainder of the season.

Even if he only needs a couple of weeks on the shelf, there is a good chance the Angels just shut him down because they are not really in contention anymore.

Still, true baseball fans would love to watch Ohtani play for as long as he is healthy.

With a damaged elbow and a potential oblique injury, that might not be the case anymore.

In any case, no American League player comes close to what he has done offensively and as a pitcher, which means he has the AL MVP essentially wrapped up.
