Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani got hurt this week in batting practice.
Taking one of his swings, he felt something in his oblique area and stopped the session immediately.
The pain looked tolerable, but history has taught us that oblique injuries should not be taken lightly.
That’s why the team performed tests and imaging on the area to make sure they had the right diagnosis.
After reviewing the information, the organization has finally informed fans on Ohtani’s health.
“Shohei Ohtani’s injury is day-to-day, Nevin said. He said there was inflammation. So there is an expectation from the team that he’ll play again for the Angels this season,” Angels insider Sam Blum tweeted.

The team will have to treat the inflammation and wait for it to come down before even thinking about a return.
However, it doesn’t sound like a more serious oblique strain so the odds are that the Japanese phenom will take the field again in 2023 in preparation for his upcoming free agency.
He couldn’t achieve his main objective, which was take LA to the postseason.
The team is 64-75 with five straight losses, so their mathematical chances are slim and their realistic ones are closer to none.
Still, Ohtani has been able to complete a marvelous season.
He hit .304/.412/.654 with 44 home runs, 20 stolen bases, and a 1.066 OPS, not to mention his 3.14 ERA in 132 innings as a pitcher.
He is truly a one-of-a-kind player, and even though there are questions about an elbow injury that might limit his capability to pitch in 2024, he will make a boatload of money.
