At one point during the 2022-23 NBA regular season, the Los Angeles Lakers were a mess with little chance of making the NBA playoffs, as injuries and lack of team chemistry seemed insurmountable.
Despite what looked like a bleak future, the Lakers made some bold moves ahead of the NBA trade deadline in February and were able to turn things around.
The additions of D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley and the subtraction of Russell Westbrook were steps in the right direction, with the team being on the right track ever since.
With the Lakers now set to play the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Play-in Tournament, Anthony Davis was asked about the impact of the teams’ moves via Mark Medina of NBA.com.

Although the Lakers weren’t able to immediately punch their ticket to the first round of the playoffs, the team has been playing at a high level and is expected to make easy work of the Timberwolves on Tuesday night in Los Angeles.
Ironically enough, Los Angeles acquired Russell and Beasley from Minnesota, and they’ve both become critical pieces to the puzzle for the Lakers.
The Timberwolves, however, have seemingly started to fall apart, as they ended the regular season in the worst way, with Ruby Gobert getting into a physical altercation with Kyle Anderson, resulting in a suspension for the three-time All-Star center.
Minnesota will be without Gobert in the Play-in game against the Lakers, which helps tilt the scales in Los Angeles’ favor and may ultimately be the difference on Tuesday.
