Anthony Davis was the best player for the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 5 against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night.

The iconic big man scored 31 points with 19 rebounds, but that wasn’t enough to emerge victorious.

The Lakers lost 116-99 at Memphis, and now this first-round series heads back to Los Angeles for a pivotal Game 6.

Following Game 5, Davis said he’ll be prepared to do what it takes to win moving forward.

Lakers reporter Jovan Buha pointed out that Davis said he’s ready to play “42, 45, 48 minutes” in Game 6 on Friday.

This is great news for Lakers fans who need Davis to show up and perform like the superstar he is.

However, there is some concern that things might not go according to plan.

Even though Davis scored 31 points in Game 5, he was held to only 12 points and 11 rebounds in Game 4.

Prior to that, the Lakers big man scored 31 points with 17 rebounds in Game 3.

Davis had 13 points and 9 boards in Game 2 while posting 22 points and 12 rebounds in a Game 1 victory.

As you can see, he has been flip-flopping between games, putting up big numbers and then falling into a middling performance in the next contest.

This pattern cannot continue if the Lakers wish to put the Grizzlies away on Friday night.

Instead, Davis will need to break the pattern and put together a strong outing for the second straight game.

If that happens, and the rest of the team plays well, then the Lakers could clinch the series and move on to the second round.

Even with some inconsistency, Davis has remained a crucial part of the team throughout the postseason.

He has been essential, particularly on the defensive end of the court.

There have been a few scary moments when it looked like Davis was hurt but the veteran has pushed through and remained on the floor.

His latest statement proves that he’s ready to keep fighting hard, no matter what it takes.
