Multiple players contributed to the Los Angeles Lakers’ big win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday evening, including LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
But D’Angelo Russell had the hottest night, scoring 26 points and 6 rebounds and going 5-of-11 from the three-point line.
Following the game, Davis spoke to Spectrum SportsNet about the way Russell continually added important three-pointers to the score.
“That’s what he does, he’s shown that he can get hot at any point in the game. When he made the first two, we kind of knew the third one was going up,” Davis said.

This is something that Lakers fans have seen from Russell repeatedly.
He will get a hot hand during games and it seems impossible to slow him down.
Russell is shooting 41.6% from the three-point line this season, which is actually a little bit down from last year (46.9%).
However, his shot selection often feels smarter and more consequential and there have been a number of games where his buckets from downtown have been a major difference-maker for the Lakers.
Even though the numbers might not show it, this has been a huge season for Russell.
When 2023-24 kicked off, there were many who questioned his future with the Lakers and numerous rumors said the team was looking to offload his contract at the trade deadline.
But the front office decided to stick with Russell and he has been playing smart, efficient, and effective basketball for months.
Some people thought he was only going to be strong in the leadup to the trade deadline, which earned him the nickname “Deadline D’Lo.”
But Russell has stayed great since the deadline has come and gone and is still posting some tough and hugely impactful shots for his team.
