Unless they are hurt — and sometimes even despite being hurt — NBA players usually have another gear and level to their game.

All competitors want to be at their best when they’re tested or facing adversity, and those with strong characters usually deliver when it matters the most.

That seems to be the case with Anthony Edwards, who took things personally when his team was about to get sent home.

Facing a 0-3 deficit and elimination, the former No. 1 pick took matters into his own hands to make sure the Minnesota Timberwolves stayed alive for another day.

When asked about his motivation before the game, he admitted that he took things personally because he had never been swept before in his young career, so he wasn’t going to start now (via NBA on TNT).

Of course, NBA players shouldn’t need extra motivation to be at their best night in and night out, especially in the playoffs, but that’s just human nature.

Edwards delivered a big performance, scoring a game-high 29 points to go along with ten boards and nine assists.

Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns struggled with foul trouble for most of the game, but they still held their own and contributed to the win.

The Timberwolves were up late in all three previous games, so it’s not like they had been blown out or couldn’t compete.

Now, they’ll look to become the first team to come back from a 0-3 deficit in NBA playoffs history.
