The Minnesota Timberwolves are four wins away from their first trip to the NBA Finals.

That’s something Kevin Garnett couldn’t do, and neither could Kevin Love nor Jimmy Butler.

And while that’s mostly thanks to Anthony Edwards, the former No. 1 pick believes it all has to do with Karl-Anthony Towns.

Following their Game 7 win over the Denver Nuggets, he made sure to give Towns his flowers, stating that they didn’t have an answer for him and going as far as to call him ‘the baddest big on the planet’ (via The Athletic).

It’s safe to say that those words were a bit of an overreaction, but Towns did play a huge role in this series, and that was even more evident when he didn’t have a good game.

Having Towns wearing down Aaron Gordon on defense was key to making sure he wasn’t a factor, and he struggled mightily in all three losses.

Towns isn’t much of a one-on-one defender, but he’s made great strides as a help defender and a rim protector, and he’s perhaps the best shooting big in the game right now.

Of course, Edwards is this team’s leader and most important player, but no one can win on his own, and Towns’ solid performance in the close-out game was also key to their success.

Now, the Timberwolves will match up with another physical frontcourt featuring the likes of Daniel Gafford, Dereck Lively, and PJ Washington, and it’ll be a nice chess match to see who gets a spot in the NBA Finals.
