The Minnesota Timberwolves didn’t hesitate to take Anthony Edwards with the No. 1 pick a couple of seasons ago, and it proved to be the right move.
Edwards has taken great strides in every season he’s been in the league, and he’s proven to have that “it factor” that often turns good players into great ones.
That was on full display again during their nine-point road loss to the Denver Nuggets, as he made NBA playoff history with his performance.
Edwards was in human torch mode and became the youngest player to record 40+ points and 5+ three-pointers in a playoff game, according to StatMuse.

He was the best player on his team by a very long stretch, topping 41 points with two boards, four assists, two steals, three blocks, and six three-pointers on 60.9% from the floor.
Unfortunately, the rest of his supporting cast failed to step up to the task, with Karl-Anthony Towns scoring just 10 points on 12 shots, mostly thanks to Nikola Jokic’s solid defense on him.
The Timberwolves are now facing a 0-2 deficit as they head back to the Twin Cities, a tough test for their young star looking to advance in the postseason.
Edwards is averaging nearly 25 points per game through the first two contests, and he’s coming off a borderline All-Star season for the inconsistent Timberwolves.
But he’ll need more help from Towns, Rudy Gobert, and Mike Conley if the Timberwolves want to have even a slight chance to turn this series around vs. the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.
