The Indianapolis Colts have been desperate to stay in contention in the AFC since superstar quarterback Andrew Luck shockingly retired in 2019.

Despite bringing in big-name players like Matt Ryan and Philip Rivers, the Colts haven’t been able to replace what Luck brought to the table, which has become a persistent problem for the franchise over the last few years.

This year, the team decided against going after a big-name veteran quarterback and has chosen to develop a young quarterback, with the team bringing in Anthony Richardson out of the University of Florida.

After being selected at No. 4 overall in the first round of the draft, Richardson shared his reaction to being the new face of the Colts franchise via Stacey Dales of NFL Network.

He explains his emotions, that special call the team made, and what excites him most about thriving in Shane Steichen’s offense…

Although many expected Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud to go No. 1 and No. 2 in this draft, it was somewhat of a mystery where Richardson would land, as it was uncertain if he’d go before or after Will Levis out of the University of Kentucky.

Unfortunately for Levis, the Wildcats product dropped entirely out of the first round and landed with the Tennessee Titans near the top of the second round.

However, Richardson went higher than anticipated and will likely compete with veteran newcomer Gardner Minshew to be the Week 1 starter in Indianapolis.

It’ll be interesting to see how this training camp battle unfolds and whether Richardson can live up to expectations as a high first-round draft pick.

The pressure could be on right out of the gate for Richardson as team owner Jim Irsay wants to win sooner rather than later.
