At the end of spring training, the New York Yankees made the decision to include top shortstop prospect Anthony Volpe on their Opening Day roster.

Sure enough, Volpe was starting at the shortstop position on Opening Day against the San Francisco Giants.

He got off to a bit of a rough start, but now appears to be finding his footing at the Major League level.

In fact, Volpe has posted some very impressive numbers to start the season.

He owns a 103 wRC+, a 0.9 fWAR, +1 Outs Above Average, +1 Defensive Runs Saved, a 2.9 BsR, and a 13.8 percent walk rate.

The 22-year-old is also on pace to finish with a WAR above 4.0 and has an .835 OPS over his last 18 games.

Anthony Volpe is starting to really find his footing in MLB:

+1 OAA
+1 DRS
13.8% BB%

The Yankees may indeed have something special in Volpe.

The star shortstop had a strong spring training and ultimately fought his way onto the Opening Day roster.

Fast forward a month, and Volpe seems to be gaining some traction.

In addition to the stats listed in the tweet above, Volpe has hit three home runs, driven in nine runs, and stolen 10 bases.

His batting average still sits at .230, but he is hitting .292 over his last seven games.

On both sides, Volpe is making some major improvements and becoming the player that the Yankees expected him to be out of spring training.

The young shortstop was the 30th pick in first round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

Four years later, Volpe finds himself with the Yankees big-league club and on the verge of taking off.
