On Saturday, New York Yankees top prospect Anthony Volpe received some big and exciting news.
The 21-year-old shortstop was called into manager Aaron Boone‘s office, where he was informed that he had won the starting shortstop job and would be traveling with the Yankees back to the Bronx.
Volpe was understandably very excited to receive this news and could not contain his excitement.
On Sunday, before the Yankees’ Grapefruit League matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays, the 21-year-old had a chance to speak with members of the media and expressed his excitement to head north with the Yankees and begin his MLB journey.

Volpe was asked if he was nervous about being called into Boone’s office.
He said that his heart was pumping and that he was in fact slightly nervous, but that he ultimately was happy with the result of the meeting.
The top prospect was at a loss for words when he spoke with the media, but had a big smile on his face as he continued to express how excited he was.
He said that he wasn’t exactly sure what to expect on Opening Day at Yankee Stadium, but made it clear that he was grateful for the opportunity and the energy that will be present in the Bronx.
He also made sure to thank those that have helped him throughout his life and on his baseball journey, giving credit where credit is due and understanding just how difficult the journey can be.
Now, he’ll have a chance to compete with the Yankees on Opening Day.
