With superstar forward LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers nearing the end of his playing career in the NBA, as he’ll turn 40 in December and has flirted with the idea of retirement, some have started to wonder who will be the next face of the league.

Fortunately, there’s no shortage of superstars in the league today, so James will leave the game in good hands whenever he decides to walk away, but it’s a very debatable topic that will likely go on for years once the four-time NBA champion is officially retired.

Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Joel Embiid are the names that will frequently come up in this conversation, but ESPN’s Austin Rivers went in a different direction.

Apparently, Rivers believes that San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama will be the next face of the NBA, which isn’t a bold take, as many think he’ll be a superstar in the very near future.

“It has to be Victor,” Rivers said. “He has talent and potential that we’ve never seen in the NBA. He’s a freak. He’s showing an outside game and an inside game. One of the league leaders in blocks, and you have Gregg Popovich as your coach. I think the future is super bright for him.”

Although the Spurs are struggling this season and will be looking toward the NBA Draft Lottery rather than the NBA playoffs this year, San Antonio has a potentially bright future with Wembanyama leading the way.

The question now for the Spurs is what talent they can put around the international import in order for him to reach his true potential and get the franchise back to its winning ways.
