The Boston Celtics are hoping to end the 2023–24 NBA season on Monday night, while the Dallas Mavericks are fighting to keep their hopes alive for at least one more game.

Even if the Celtics lose Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday night they will still have two more chances to score a championship.

But Austin Rivers told ESPN that the Celtics need to close out the series on Monday.

He listed a number of reasons why Boston should end things with Game 5, including the fact that Luka Doncic could be a huge headache if this series continues.

“You don’t want to go against Game 7 Luka,” Rivers said.

Many people were shocked by just how badly the Celtics were beaten in Game 4.

While there were numerous analysts and fans who thought the Mavericks would win, few thought they’d blow the Celtics out by nearly 40 points.

If the Mavericks are able to score another win on Monday night, even a tiny one, it’ll officially shift the momentum in their direction.

That would be very bad news for the Celtics, who were looking so dominant up until a few nights ago.

A loss at home would be devastating for Boston, especially right after their dismal showing in Game 3.

It would have a ton of people wondering if perhaps they don’t have what it takes to win the Finals.

Plus, it would line the Mavericks up for another home game with Game 6.

Throughout this series, the Celtics have shown that they are a superior team in many ways.

They slipped up in a big way during Game 4 but now they have to bounce back, Rivers said.
