The Tampa Bay Buccaneers went from a volatile and unpredictable team to being legit Super Bowl contenders in the blink of an eye, even winning one ring in the process.

But — with all due respect — going from Tom Brady to Baker Mayfield makes it tough to think that they’ll continue to fight for divisional titles or trophies anytime soon.

Even so, the former No. 1 pick won’t let any of the outside noise, criticism, or even mockery stand in the way of his job.

He recently told Sara Walsh of the NFL Network that he doesn’t need any sort of outside validation to feel capable of doing his job.

To be fair, Mayfield has had a tough time in the league, changing playbooks seemingly every season.

He did lead the Cleveland Browns to the playoffs before they gave up on him, and even though he didn’t look good with the Carolina Panthers, he did look quite promising with the Los Angeles Rams.

He’s still young, and there’s still a chance he turns out to be good in this league.

Just look at Matthew Stafford; he was a part of losing teams for the better part of his career until he finally got the chance to play for a winning organization.

The Bucs still have a solid receiving corps and play in arguably the worst division in football, so there’s a chance that they can make the playoffs even if they flirt with .500 football over the season.

That being said, it might be now or never for Mayfield.
