Baker Mayfield’s rise to stardom last year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was one of the best feel-good subplots of the 2023-24 NFL season as the former No. 1 overall pick on his fourth team and likely his last opportunity to prove himself as a starting quarterback led the team to the NFC South crown and a playoff victory.

Mayfield has never been shy and summed up his journey fittingly in a recent media appearance.

Mayfield appeared on The Mike Calta Show recently and said that he felt like “dirty laundry” before arriving with the Bucs and said “When I got embraced in Tampa, it made a world of difference.”

Mayfield put up career highs with a 64.3 percent completion percentage for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns with just ten interceptions before leading his Bucs to a 32-9 drubbing of the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs by throwing for 337 yards and three touchdowns.

He was rewarded this offseason with a 3-year, $100 million contract for his efforts and no longer has to wonder where he’ll be playing next season after bouncing around with four teams over the previous three years.

Mayfield put forth a similar storyline to Geno Smith the year before and was similarly rewarded, and it will be fun to see what he can do to follow it up this year now that his Bucs are returning most of the pieces around him.

Superstar wide receiver Mike Evans was re-signed despite a year full of trade rumors and the team also drafted receiver Jalen McMillan out of Washington to add to the receiving corps.
