Ever since superstar guard Damian Lillard told the Portland Trail Blazers that he wanted to be traded, the rumors were swirling around the NBA about his intentions to play for the Miami Heat to team up with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.
Unfortunately for the Heat, the reason a deal never came to fruition with the Blazers was Lillard’s agent pushing the narrative that his client would only play in Miami moving forward.
This seemed to have rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, from the Blazers front office to league officials, who eventually informed Lillard’s agent to stop making that statement.
This only made the situation that much more difficult for the Heat, as they continued to try to work on a deal to bring in Lillard, but Portland wasn’t having it as they decided to pursue a deal elsewhere and were able to do just that by making a three-team trade with the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks.
Adebayo was recently asked about the Lillard trade saga, and he admitted that he wished it would’ve ended much earlier than it did, via SiriusXM NBA Radio.

This must have been a tough situation for all of those involved, as no one knew what was going to happen until it happened, which was only a few days before training camp, as Adebayo points out.
The NBA offseason is supposed to be a time to recoup and relax to prepare for the next season, but it clearly wasn’t the case for Lillard and all the teams and players involved, which is unfortunate.
