Former NFL linebacker Bart Scott was never one to mince words when he was on the playing field, and he does the same now that he is thriving in his career as an analyst.

He recently went on air and called out one Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback who he believes is at a point in his career where it’s time to prove himself once and for all.

Scott recently appeared on ESPN’s Get Up to discuss Russell Wilson’s injury potentially opening the door for Justin Fields to prove himself as the starter and said, “If I’m Justin Fields, I’m saying ‘this is my opportunity’ and he’ll never get this spot back.”

Scott shared his own anecdotes from his playing days when he started out as an undrafted free agent and felt like he couldn’t miss time due to injury since he was fighting for his career, and he mentioned that’s exactly where Wilson is at this point in his career.

Wilson is fighting to stay in the league after a couple of subpar years with the Denver Broncos and Fields has an open door with Russ’ calf injury to build chemistry with the starters and make this a real quarterback competition.

This Thursday was the first time Fields had taken 1st-team reps in practice since being traded on March 16th.

There’s no question Fields is the higher-ceiling option in this QB room, but there’s also a reason why he was unceremoniously traded from the Chicago Bears to now be a backup.

Keep an eye on this subplot as training camp unfolds.
