Over the past couple of weeks, the Chicago Bears have gotten a good look at what they might be getting week in and week out from rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who has put on a show with some exciting plays during the preseason as he gets his professional career underway with the storied franchise.

Well before the Bears selected Williams out of the University of Southern California with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the former Trojans superstar was getting a lot of buzz as a player who could easily transition to the next level and become an elite quarterback in the meantime.

So far, it looks like the Bears have brought in a legitimate franchise quarterback, a first for Chicago despite the team’s storied history, which bodes well for the immediate future.

With the Bears investing so much into building around Williams moving forward and hoping he’ll be their franchise player for many years to come, Chicago won’t be playing the rookie in the team’s preseason finale on Thursday when they take on the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.

#Bears HC Matt Eberflus said QB Caleb Williams and the majority of other starters will not play in their preseason finale Thursday night vs. the Chiefs.

Resting Williams for the last preseason game is a smart move, as there’s no point in taking any unnecessary risks with the new starting quarterback ahead of the Week 1 showdown with the Tennessee Titans at Soldier Field on September 8.

The first game of the season for the Bears will be one of the most highly-anticipated games of Week 1, with everyone wanting to get a look at Williams to see if he’s the real deal.
