The 2023 NFL season continues to get worse and worse for the Chicago Bears, as one of the greatest players in franchise history passed away on Thursday.
The Bears have a long list of dominant players that have come through their organization, with most of those players making a considerable impact in the NFL on the defensive side of the football.
This week, the Bears lost one of their most iconic players who has ever played the linebacker position in Chicago and in the NFL, for that matter.
According to a statement released by the team on Thursday, legendary linebacker Dick Butkus died at the age of 80.

Few players in the NFL have left more of a legacy and a memorable playing career than Butkus, who was the ideal linebacker during his day while playing for the Bears from 1965, where he was taken with the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft out of the University of Illinois, and retiring in 1973.
Even though Butkus never won it all during his time with the Bears, the Hall of Famer’s resume is as impressive as any at the linebacker position, as he won NFL Defensive Player of the Year twice and was named an All-Pro eight times during his time in Chicago.
Butkus played for only one NFL team during the course of his playing career and has become synonymous with the Bears franchise and what it means to be a tough and gritty player in the NFL.
