The New England Patriots want to do things right this time.

The post-Bill Belichick era starts with plenty of hope, spearheaded by the addition of Drake Maye.

For the first time in years, it seems like the Patriots will finally have a functioning offense again.

Nonetheless, as what happens with most rookie quarterbacks, the Patriots will have to be very patient and allow their new signal-caller to grow and develop, even if that means having him sit for a full season.

With that in mind, the Patriots brought in a guy with plenty of experience at assessing and helping quarterbacks, hiring former New York Giants HC Ben McAdoo to be a senior offensive assistant.

Moreover, a report by Cameron Wolfe revealed that McAdoo will be working directly with Maye and helping him develop, being considered a ‘quarterback savant’ (Via Los Pats Talks).

#Patriots senior offensive assistant Ben McAdoo will play a “significant role” in QB Drake Maye’s development, per @CameronWolfe.

Wolfe adds that it’s not like new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt won’t have a role in that, but McAdoo will reportedly do most of the heavy lifting.

Van Pelt is also a former quarterback, so Maye will be surrounded by people who understand his needs and flaws.

This is a nice turn from what the Patriots did on offense during the final years of Bill Belichick’s tenure in Foxboro, with no true offensive coordinator and defensive-minded assistants handling offensive duties as well.

And while it might take them a while, it’s nice to see that this team has found a clear direction again.
