The Brooklyn Nets made a big commitment to Ben Simmons, absorbing his contract and considering him a potential franchise cornerstone to build around.
That was before he failed to suit up in his first season with the team while he continued to nurse a back injury, and before he barely played in the following campaign with multiple ailments.
It’s safe to say that Simmons is in debt to the organization and their fans, which is why he’s been working quite hard in the offseason to get back on the court as soon as possible.

Nonetheless, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen in the upcoming FIBA World Cup, according to Nets Daily (via NBACentral).
This decision could be due to the fact that he’s not at full strength yet or because he wants to spend more time training and getting up to speed for the Nets.
However, Australian players, fans, and even the media have often called him out for his apparent lack of commitment to the national team, constantly refusing to suit up for them.
Whatever the case, people have repeatedly questioned Simmons’ commitment and love for the game, and his reputation and the narrative around him have never been worse.
Simmons is still young and quite gifted, and there’s still a chance that he turns out to be a star in this league, but it seems like he’ll have a long road ahead of him to silence his critics after all he’s been through over the past couple of years.
