The Brooklyn Nets are positioning themselves to reset the franchise ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season as they already dealt away star wing Mikal Bridges for a bevy of draft capital.
The move was expected as Brooklyn has been running in place for years without a clear direction, but now the front office can operate knowing it needs to set up a rebuild.
The 2025 NBA Draft will feature Duke star Cooper Flagg and he represents the Nets’ best chance of getting back into playoff contention.
Brooklyn’s got more wings to trade like Cam Johnson and Dorian Finney-Smith who would fetch more draft picks, though they’re likely stuck with Ben Simmons.
Simmons has a large amount of money still due on his current deal and has dealt with injuries over the past few seasons that have made him a negative asset.
However, he shouldn’t have to worry about those things as he’s celebrating his 28th birthday via NBA Central.

Still in his prime years, Simmons could be a legitimate role player if he’s ever able to get his body right for the regular season.
Earlier in his career, Simmons had the look of a franchise player as he could playmake and defend at high levels.
In the rare times that Simmons was available during the 2023-24 NBA season, he showed off those same skills though now it’s a matter of being able to stay on the court.
Hopefully the former No. 1 overall pick can get back to full health as he has some gas left in the tank as a player.
