Australian players have had plenty to say about Brooklyn Nets star Ben Simmons in the past.

The former No. 1 pick has committed and uncommitted from the national team multiple times.

Recently, Australia coach Brian Goorjian claimed that they’re not going to beg him to play for the Boomers, although he did leave the door open for him.

Notably, Simmons just told Marc J. Spears of Andscape that he’s definitely looking forward to suiting up for his national team in the 2024 Olympics (via Tom Hersz).

As promising as that could be for the Boomers, this isn’t the first time that Simmons has made a promise of this style.

He was called up for the team ahead of the 2016 Olympics and withdrew.

He later claimed that he was looking forward to playing in the 2019 FIBA World Cup, but the same happened.

He also stated that he had a ‘strong chance’ to play in this year’s FIBA World Cup before injuries ruled him out.

Simmons needs to prove that he can stay healthy and play at a solid level first, and then he can think of playing for the Boomers.

Even without him, the Australian national team has made a big name for themselves over the past couple of years, so it’ll be up to him to earn himself a spot on the team.
