It’s been four years since Ben Simmons last played at least 50 games in an NBA season.

He’s made a combined 57 appearances since arriving in Brooklyn to play for the Nets, and he’s averaged roughly under seven points per game.

Once considered a potential Defensive Player of the Year candidate and one of the best young players in the game, not many fans have any sort of faith or confidence in Simmons anymore.

Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean he’s given up on himself or his playing career.

If anything, he’s still looking forward to proving the doubters wrong.

With that in mind, he shared a picture on social media of him working out with the phrase: “It hits different when you bet on yourself and it pays off” (via The Brooklyn Way).

Every single offseason, Simmons looks ready to dominate and posts plenty of workout clips to get the fans hyped up and put the rest of the league on notice.

At this point, however, it’s become more of a running joke and a yearly tradition.

Simmons is still young, and when healthy, he can make a big impact on both ends of the floor.

But at this point in his career, it’s not about potential or being patient, and he’ll just have to prove it on the court throughout a full season for people to believe in him again.
