Anytime a major injury takes place in the NFL, it is tough to watch.
It is even tougher when that major injury takes place before the season even starts.
Unfortunately for Cincinnati Bengals veteran defensive end Cam Sample, this is exactly the case.
According to insider Ari Meirov, Sample will miss the entire 2024 NFL season with a torn Achilles that he suffered last week at practice.
Cincinnati’s defensive line just took a massive hit.

Sample wasn’t a superstar defender or anything like that.
However, the former fourth-round pick out of Tulane was a quality depth piece behind the likes of Pro Bowl edge-rusher Trey Hendrickson and defensive end Sam Hubbard.
He started two games out of the 17 that he played in last season, recorded a career-high 29 total tackles, as well as a career-best eight quarterback hits.
Another intriguing part about Sample is that he was entering his fourth season at just 24 years of age, so he was very experienced for being so young.
Now, the Bengals are going to have to look to other players to step in and help fill the reserve role.
Second-year defensive end Myles Murphy and former All-American Joseph Ossai are next up in line to help fill the void left by Sample.
In a conference, let alone a division, with so many quality quarterbacks, the defensive line might be the most important part of the team from Cincinnati’s point of view.
If defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo can get production out of his depth along the trenches, the Bengals could survive the loss of Sample.
