Shortly after training camp got underway for the Cincinnati Bengals, the team was almost immediately hit with the worst-case scenario, with superstar quarterback Joe Burrow going down with a leg injury.

Burrow suffered the injury while scrambling during a play in practice and immediately went to the ground with a non-contact injury, which is always the worst thing to see.

The leg injury was severe enough at the time that Burrow had to be taken off the field on a cart, with a lot of Bengals fans fearing the worst about what he’d be diagnosed with.

Fortunately, Burrow was said to have suffered a calf strain, which is an injury that a player can bounce back from in a few weeks, leading to optimism that he’d be ready for the season opener against the division-rival Cleveland Browns on the road in Week 1.

On Wednesday, head coach Zac Taylor gave somewhat of an update on Burrow’s status, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Bengals’ HC Zac Taylor to reporters today on the status of Joe Burrow’s strained calf injury: “The timeline is several weeks from when I said several weeks.”

Obviously, this isn’t much of an update as it is incredibly vague, as it could mean that he’s on track to return in the near future or that the team doesn’t have a timeline for when he’ll get back on the field, which is not a great sign moving forward.

With Burrow on the mend, the Bengals will likely turn to veteran journeyman Trevor Siemian to fill the void left under center until the face of the franchise is healthy and ready to resume his role as the leader of this team.
