The Cincinnati Bengals recently made a key move by signing kicker Evan McPherson to a contract extension worth $16.5 million over three years.

In reporting the new deal, NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo made note of McPherson’s clutch abilities in both the postseason and in pressure situations.

“Evan McPherson gets the money because he’s been money for the Bengals,” Garafolo wrote on X.

Evan McPherson gets the money because he’s been money for the #Bengals: 19-for-19 in the playoffs (second-most without a miss to begin a postseason career) and 21 made FGs of 50+ yards (tied for most the last 3 years, most for a kicker in the first 3 years of his career). https://t.co/yg4gfmFtnr

The 25-year-old is 19-for-19 in field goals to begin his playoff career, which is good for second-most in the history of the NFL without a miss (Robbie Gould, 29-for-29).

In 2022, his 14 made field goals in the postseason tied NFL legend Adam Vinatieri for the most in a single postseason.

Additionally, he has made 21 field goals of at least 50 yards, which is tied for the league lead over the past three seasons.

Simply put, he is one of the best kickers in the NFL and deserves to get paid accordingly.

He has a success rate of nearly 84 percent and is one of the many reasons the Bengals have been able to win a lot of games when they are healthy.

With quarterback Joe Burrow back under center this season, look for the Bengals to be in a lot of hotly contested games that could be decided by a late field goal.

In an AFC with plenty of great offenses and quarterbacks, every team also needs a quality kicker.

The Bengals clearly trust the former fifth-round pick from the University of Florida, which is why they made the move to secure him with this deal.
