Bengals Star Misses Practice Amid Contract Saga

After quarterback Joe Burrow dealt with injuries last season, the Cincinnati Bengals are hoping to make another run at a Super Bowl championship this season.

However, they first have to deal with the contract status of their two biggest offensive weapons.

Wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins have been looking for lucrative extensions, and as a result, Chase wasn’t present for the Bengals’ practice session on Tuesday according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Chase is one of the NFL’s better wideouts, and he has made the Pro Bowl and gone over 1,000 receiving yards in each of his three pro seasons.

Last year, he had 100 receptions for 1,216 yards and seven touchdowns even though Burrow was limited to 10 games due to a calf strain and a wrist injury.

The wide receiver market in the NFL has been elevated in the last year or two by the huge extensions that have been given to players such as Justin Jefferson and Amon-Ra St. Brown, and that could complicate the Bengals’ attempts to keep their offensive crew together.

They recently gave Burrow a humongous extension, and thus they may not be able to keep both Chase and Higgins.

Prior to last season, Cincinnati had reached the AFC Championship Game twice and had reached the Super Bowl during the 2021 season and narrowly lost there to the Los Angeles Rams.

Needless to say, this contract situation is something they will need to get sorted out over the next few weeks if they will have a good shot at getting back to the big game.
