The New England Patriots will be entering a new era in 2024 after the team parted ways with legendary head coach Bill Belichick on Thursday after 24 years with the team.

Belichick’s illustrious tenure includes six Super Bowl championships – the most by any head coach – and his 266 regular-season wins with the Patriots are the second-most by a head coach at any one team.

That legacy was not lost on Belichick when he spoke to reporters Thursday, as the now-former Patriots head coach told reporters he joined the organization to win Super Bowls and accomplished more than what he expected.

“We had a vision of building a championship football team here,” Belichick said Thursday via NFL on CBS, “and that’s exceeded my wildest dreams and expectations.”

Belichick will likely go down as the greatest head coach of all time, even if he doesn’t break any more coaching records or join any other team.

But there is a lot of speculation for his next destination and who will replace him in New England.

The Atlanta Falcons and Washington Commanders are among the most-reported teams that Belichick could coach in 2024, while the Patriots could hire an in-house candidate like defensive assistant and former Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo or someone like former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who also played in New England.

Whatever happens, the careers of countless players and coaches were made by Belichick during his time with the Patriots, and whoever replaces him in New England will have humungous shoes to fill on a team that hasn’t looked very promising in recent years.
