During his NFL playing career, superstar defensive end JJ Watt was considered one of the best players in the league and an absolute handful for opposing offenses to handle whenever the Houston Texans came to town in his prime.
Unfortunately for Watt, injuries started to pile up in the second half of his Hall-of-Fame-caliber career in the league, which forced him to play the final years of his career with the Arizona Cardinals and decide to call it quits because he was tired of constantly battling back from injuries over and over again.
Although his playing career was over, Watt is one of many former superstars who have made the transition to the media/analyst side of the game and have carved out a nice post-playing career for themselves.
However, he hasn’t been able to avoid the constant rumors swirling about his desire to return to the game, especially with the Texans being arguably a legitimate Super Bowl title contender in the AFC with star quarterback CJ Stroud resurrecting the franchise last season under head coach DeMeco Ryans.
During an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, who has become an NFL analyst, thinks Watt is back in playing shape and could play for the Texans or Steelers in a comeback attempt.
“I think it’s going to have to be the right situation,” Cowher said. “I think the only place that would ever be the case would probably be the Houston Texans or even maybe the Pittsburgh Steelers if it came down to it.”

If Watt is in playing shape and motivated to return to the gridiron in an attempt to win that elusive Super Bowl title with the team he became a superstar playing for, Houston might be wise to pick up the phone and bring him in.
Even if Watt isn’t close to the player he used to be—and chances are he isn’t—the veteran leadership would only help this team move to the next level.
