With just a week to go until the NFL kicks off, we’re all running out of time to fire off our takes for the season, but if you’re looking to jump on somebody else’s, Ringer Founder Bill Simmons released his yearly over/under podcast where he went through every team and selected whether each one would beat its season-long win totals that Las Vegas has laid out for them.
In his breakdowns, he said that one division could be a “train wreck” this year.
Simmons said on his podcast that the NFC South is “an absolute all-timer of a train wreck” and pointed out that the fewest number of wins by an entire division over the last five years is 23 and that the NFC South could challenge that number, adding that this division could be “the punching bag for everybody.”
How bad will the NFC South be in 2024? I’m going with somewhere between “dumpster fire” and “train wreck.” pic.twitter.com/bkpgU4LPKF

Simmons picked the under for all four teams, going under 5.5 wins for the Carolina Panthers, under 7.5 wins for the New Orleans Saints, under 7.5 wins for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and under 9.5 wins for the Atlanta Falcons.
Expectations for the Falcons are much higher after signing Kirk Cousins in the offseason and they are the prohibitive favorites to win the division, while the Bucs and Saints didn’t do a whole lot to improve from last season, and the Panthers brought in a new coaching staff and made a series of roster changes to improve upon last year’s abhorrent 2-15 season.
The Bucs and Saints both went 9-8 last year and the Bucs beat the Philadelphia Eagles 32-9 in the postseason.
The division shouldn’t be as bad as Simmons thinks, but there is plenty of uncertainty within this group.
