Bill Simmons Calls Out NBA Franchise For Being ‘Cheap’

It’s been a long time since the Chicago Bulls were relevant, basketball-wise.

They haven’t gotten to the NBA Finals since 1998, and the only time they looked like a legitimate contender was when Derrick Rose was a rising star.

Arturas Karnisovas was supposed to turn the franchise around, but that hasn’t been the case thus far.

Failed trades, mid-tier stars getting a lot of money, and a lack of a good scouting department have doomed this franchise to a never-ending mediocrity spiral.

That’s why NBA analyst Bill Simmons took to Twitter to make fun of them.

He pointed out the fact that despite being the third-largest market, the owners are so ‘cheap’ that they refuse to pay the tax, settling for being a 42-40 kind of team.

The Chicago Bulls are in the 3rd biggest market in America. They’ve only paid the luxury tax once. It’s actually hilarious how cheap they are. They just try to go 42-40 every year and win a play-in game and call it a year. The other big market owners must loving having them. pic.twitter.com/pRJjOlCixi

That’s the harsh truth for the Bulls.

They have the city, the culture, the money, and the fans to have one of the best teams in the league, yet they don’t attract any top-notch free agents or stars because they don’t want to get into the luxury tax.

Unfortunately, that’s the only way to compete in today’s game.

That’s unless you build a strong team from the draft like the Oklahoma City Thunder, but the Bulls have either traded or botched their first-round picks more often than not.

It’s crazy to think that this franchise once had the greatest dynasty this game has ever seen.

Those are nothing but distant memories, and those days aren’t going to come back until they start taking a different approach.
