The Denver Broncos took a swing with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Bo Nix was a prospect with some question marks surrounding him, which is why he was passed on by 11 other teams.

The Broncos saw something in him, which seemed to come out during their first preseason game.

Nix outperformed many people’s expectations and is now in the running for the starting job for Week 1 of the regular season.

Zac Stevens, a reporter for the Broncos, asked Nix about his recent performance, where he noted that the NFL is faster than college football

While he was aware of the heightened speed, he also said, “I felt very calm and relaxed back there… It was just a game… I thought we did a good job with our play calls today, we stayed in rhythm.”

Bo Nix noticed the NFL being faster, but it didn’t rattle him in his first preseason game:

“I felt very calm and relaxed back there. It was just a game… I thought we did a great job with our play calls today, we stayed in rhythm… So overall, it was a very productive day.”

Transitioning from the collegiate ranks to the pros is difficult in any sport.

Often, rookies and other young players can get overwhelmed by the speed of the NFL, never getting their feet under them.

Nix seemed to feel that at first, but when he mentioned being “relaxed,” fans might feel a sigh of relief.

When the game slows down for NFL athletes, good things tend to happen.

They are much more apt to follow their reads correctly and stay calm under pressure rather than panicking at the first sign of struggle.

It will be interesting to see what the Broncos do over the next several weeks, and who they will decide to roll out under center in Week 1.
