The Denver Broncos’ Russell Wilson experience didn’t go according to plan the past two seasons as the former Super Bowl MVP failed to live up to the billing.
Wilson was a disaster in his first season with the Broncos, and despite a better showing during the 2023 NFL season the team ultimately decided to part ways with him in the offseason.
Head coach Sean Payton has typically done well with quarterbacks, but couldn’t quite get on the same page as Wilson who is now looking to rehab his value with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Needing to hit reset at the quarterback position, Denver decided to take a chance on Oregon quarterback Bo Nix in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Nix was overlooked by the other quarterback prospects in his draft class, namely Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye, but is still a solid player in his own right.
During the Broncos’ first preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts, Nix threw his first professional touchdown via the team’s official Twitter account.
“First TD of the preseason.”

Lined up on the two-yard line in the middle of the second quarter, Nix fakes a handoff to the running back and finds receiver Marvin Mims for the touchdown along the left side of the end zone.
It’s a short pass, but Nix puts enough velocity on the football to ensure the defender doesn’t have a chance to break up the pass.
Nix was great in college at making simple reads and throws and should be in line for several opportunities to prove himself throughout the preseason.
