Everyone loves a good quarterback battle, but it’s more fun when it’s taking place in someone else’s training camp instead of your own favorite team, as the legendary John Madden once said, “If you have two quarterbacks, you actually have none.”

Brady Quinn reportedly feels the same way and recently said that one QB battle in the NFL has the “potential for disaster.”

Quinn shared his input on the Pittsburgh Steelers QB situation in a recent appearance on FOX Sports Radio and said: “If there’s a short leash or they pull out the rug from under Russell Wilson after two games, three games, what do you think is gonna happen to Justin Fields if he goes in there and does something similar?” and added, “it could be a potential disaster.”

Quinn spoke about the dynamic of a QB controversy on the coaching staff and the locker room and explained how important it is to give a QB time once they solidify the starting job and detailed how damaging it can be for them to have a short leash, which could cause them to play too conservatively since they’re always looking over their shoulder.

It’s a similar situation to what the Steelers went through last season with Kenny Pickett, Mitchell Trubisky, and Mason Rudolph, who all underwhelmed in their time as starters and never had the chance to develop a rhythm.

The Steelers have one of the league’s toughest divisions and will need either of these quarterbacks to emerge and play well if they are to have any chance in a loaded AFC North.
