San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been entrenched in a back-and-forth battle with his franchise this offseason as he has publicly pushed for a new contract extension while also requesting a trade if he doesn’t get one, and the situation has extended all the way to training camp without a solution in sight.

With training camp underway and Aiyuk subject to fines for skipping camp, the star receiver has made a decision about how he is going to proceed in the next step of this process.

The Athletic’s Matt Barrows shared that Aiyuk is at practice but isn’t in uniform as he watches practice from the sideline, so he won’t be fined for not showing up to training camp, but he is also not moving on and practicing as if everything is fine.

Aiyuk’s trade request was rebuked and the team isn’t giving much of an indication that it wants to extend him, so it’s unclear what happens next between these two parties.

The receiver is coming off a career year after emerging as Brock Purdy’s go-to target, and he posted a career-high 1,342 yards on 75 catches in 2023 while scoring seven touchdowns.

Aiyuk has missed just one game since his rookie year and is only 26 years old, so he is well within his right to be looking for a big payday given how well he has done in the first four years of his career while competing for targets with Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, and George Kittle.

Keep an eye out on what happens next in the Aiyuk/49ers saga.
