More than a month after losing in Super Bowl LVIII in heartbreaking fashion, the San Francisco 49ers are still dealing with the sting of coming extremely close to winning it all, only to fall short.
The clock is ticking for the once-mighty organization to claim its sixth Vince Lombardi Trophy, but it does have a young and impressive quarterback in Brock Purdy.
Plenty around the NFL are still refusing to accept the fact that Purdy is one of the game’s best QBs, but wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk isn’t in doubt — he said on “Nightcap” that Purdy is an underdog who cannot be held down.

Purdy is already one of the best Cinderella stories in modern sports history, as he was the last player taken in the 2022 NFL Draft and began his rookie season third on the 49ers’ depth chart.
Injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo paved the way for Purdy to take over under center in Week 13, and as he put up one excellent performance after another, it was clear that the Niners had found their franchise QB after over 20 years of searching for one.
Aiyuk has played a role in helping Purdy become what he has become, and last season, the wideout had his best season yet with a team-high 75 catches, 1,342 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns.
He’s angling for a lucrative contract extension before his current deal expires after the 2024 season, and if San Francisco loses him, it would be a major blow to their Super Bowl dreams.
