The Baltimore Orioles couldn’t quite advance too far in the 2023 postseason, but they have plenty of things to celebrate.
They are not a losing franchise anymore: in fact, they got the most wins in the American League this season with 101 and the second-most in baseball behind the Atlanta Braves (104).
The incredible team performance earned manager Brandon Hyde the prestigious AL Manager of the Year award, for the first time in his career.
In the process, he made important franchise history, joining three influential skippers in winning the recognition.
“Hyde joins Frank Robinson (1989), Davey Johnson (1997) and Buck Showalter (2014) as Orioles to win the AL Manager of the Year Award,” MLB insider Mark Feinsand tweeted.

Hyde took over the O’s in 2019, when they were a complete and utter disaster.
He stuck with the franchise through thick and thin, and vice versa.
The team was starting to do things the right way around the time he took over, and by 2022, they were better than a .500 team (83-79).
The breakout happened this campaign, and Hyde was there to lead it.
Oddly enough, Hyde never played in the big leagues: he reached as high as Triple-A as a player.
However, that hasn’t affected his ability to manage at the highest level.
He has been a bench coach, director of player development, and first base coach in his career, before taking over the O’s.
The path he has covered has led him to this point: being the manager of one of the most exciting teams in the majors, with an excellent present and a brighter future.
