The Milwaukee Brewers are trying to strike gold with a veteran.

After signing him to a minor league deal recently, they are now calling up third baseman Josh Donaldson from Triple-A.

The team made the announcement: Owen Miller is going to Triple-A to make room on the active roster and the Brewers are sending J.C. Mejia to the 60-day injured list, making a space for Donaldson on the 40-man roster.

Donaldson has played five games for Triple-A Nashville, and has gone 3-for-17 with two homers.

That looks a lot like his stat line for the New York Yankees earlier this year: .142/.225/.434 in 120 plate appearances, with 10 home runs.

Of course, the Yankees released him, so there is that.

Still, it wouldn’t be the first time the Brewers manage to get a renowned veteran going.

Donaldson, the winner of the 2015 AL MVP award, should see significant at-bats at third when the Brewers send Andruw Monasterio to second.

That, of course, will be dictated by how productive Donaldson is and how good Bryce Turang can play from this point forward.

Donaldson was heavily affected by injuries this season, with hamstring and calf strains that cost him months of the 2023 campaign.

He remains a solid defender at the hot corner, but his ability to hit for average has seemingly abandoned him for good.

He is still powerful enough to hit more than a few home runs, though.

He will try to help the Brewers make the playoffs and, why not, stick on their roster in October.
